Cintas Canada Reveals Top Five Finalists in Nationwide Canada’s Best Restroom Contest

The public can vote for the five finalists now through August 14th

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. — July 13, 2020 —The polls are open! Cintas Canada, Ltd. invites the public to vote for the five finalists in the 2020 Canada’s Best Restroom® contest, which shines a spotlight on deserving public washrooms. Voting is open now at www.bestrestroom.com/Canada through August 14th. The washroom that receives the most votes will win a Cintas UltraClean™ restroom cleaning service and $2,500 in facility services from Cintas to help maintain their award-winning washrooms.

“We’re excited to share these fantastic finalists from coast-to-coast with the public,” said Sonia Mendes, Senior Marketing Manager, Cintas Canada. “How a business maintains its facilities reflects their commitment to customer service. This contest recognizes the growing number of companies that are going the extra mile to provide clean, well-maintained washrooms. We hope the public shows its support for each of the five finalists.”

Nominees were judged based on five criteria: cleanliness, visual appeal, innovation, functionality and unique design elements. The five finalists include:

  1. Bicycle Thief – Halifax, NS

The Bicycle Thief restrooms are modern and stylish, with guests’ comfort as their top priority. The restrooms feature fully enclosed, well-stocked stalls with artwork and scented candles in each one. Large, decorative mirrors cover the adjacent walls, providing wide angles of the restroom’s marble walls and facilities. Fresh flowers are changed daily and placed along the granite countertops. Other features include touchless soap dispensers, hand sanitizer, porcelain sinks, chrome faucets, and touchless towel dispensers.

  1. Hawthorn Dining Room – Calgary, AB

Designed with Frank Architecture, Hawthorn wanted its washrooms to be simple yet elegant. They feature bold wallpaper with oversized flowers, giving the washrooms a light touch, which works great against the strong modern vintage décor in the dining room. Instead of regular lighting, Hawthorn added light rose diffusers to give the space a warm yet soft glow. Hawthorn partnered with Lowen’s Natural Skincare, a local Calgary company, to make curated spring/summer and fall/winter lines of soaps and lotions only available in Hawthorn. In addition to this soft yet sophisticated design, Hawthorn wanted to ensure its washrooms were inclusive for everyone with the addition of a separate gender-neutral space.

  1. Leña Restaurante – Toronto, ON

Located on the lower level of Leña Restaurante, a lively Argentinian-inspired restaurant at the corner of Yonge and Richmond, you’ll find a playful, exotic corridor leading to the restrooms. The hallway is sheathed in a strikingly beautiful animal wallpaper, which happens to be the same pattern that Leña’s own Chef Anthony Walsh has in his family home. The floors are adorned with dramatic zebra herringbone tiles. The walls feature two luminous fisheye mirrors, perfect for unconventional selfies. The stalls themselves are private and roomy, featuring a spacious washbasin with brass accents.

  1. Westview RV Park – Wetaskiwin, AB

These washrooms recently underwent a major makeover. Westview wanted to give its customers the five-star treatment and make them feel comfortable while staying at the park. The epoxy floors are textured for less slips and rounded corners were created for ease of cleaning. Meanwhile, concrete countertops and fancy tile make this the most unbelievable campground washroom anywhere.

  1. Yorkdale Shopping Centre – Toronto, ON

Yorkdale’s gender inclusive washrooms offer an inclusive option for anyone, including people of diverse gender identities and those who may require accompaniment of some kind. The modern washrooms feature a frosted glass sink with waterfall edge, bright blue tile and a large seating area near the entrance. The mall also includes six women’s and six men’s washrooms, two family washrooms, three nursing rooms and 12 single washrooms.

Five Finalists Have Been Chosen for the 2017 Cintas Canada’s Best Restroom Contest

The public can vote for their favourite washroom now through Sept. 8
MISSISSAUGA, Ont. — July 11, 2017 — From fancy faucets to chic chandeliers, the five finalists in the Cintas Canada’s Best Restroom contest have it all! Hosted by Cintas Canada, Ltd., the contest highlights public washrooms with dazzling design features and squeaky-clean stalls. The public is invited to vote for their favourite washroom at www.bestrestroom.com/ca, now through Sept. 8.
“We’re proud to showcase this year’s finalists who recognize the significant role clean and unique washrooms play in a positive customer experience,” said Candice Raynsford, Assistant Marketing Manager, Cintas Canada Ltd. “We encourage the public to support their favourite finalist as we get Ready® to crown a victor.”
The 2017 finalists for the Cintas Canada’s Best Restroom contest include:
  1. Bayview Shopping Centre — Toronto, Ontario
Bayview Shopping Centre guests are welcomed with chic chandeliers at the restroom entrance. Its washrooms feature fully enclosed stalls, each with its own touch free toilet, faucet and hand dryer. There is a nursing room equipped with a changing station and sink, as well as two cushioned chairs. The washrooms also include stylish sconces on both sides of its classy hand washing basins.
  2. Dorinku Restaurant — Edmonton, Alberta
Inspired by Tokyo Street Culture, this Japanese pub welcomes its guests with original Japanese dishes and a unique atmosphere. Anime figurines are encased in the walls leading to the washrooms, where patrons are surrounded by a serene décor. The warm wood grains of the vanity and walls are balanced with modern, bold coloured, soap and paper towel dispensers. Taking hygiene to the next level, Dorinku offers patrons options like complimentary mouthwash, bidet style toilets and touchless faucets.
  3. New City Gas — Montreal, Québec
The washrooms at New City Gas reflect the trendy atmosphere of one of Montreal’s hottest venues. The washrooms resemble a Turkish bath with a communal water fountain to wash your hands. Decorative mosaic tiles line the walls while colourful LED lights illuminate the industrial space.
  4. Renaissance Hotel — Montreal, Québec
The five individual bathrooms at the lobby level of the new Renaissance Montreal Downtown have a personality of their own. No matter which one guests choose, they will experience something unique and different. The designs are meant to provoke and intrigue guests, whether they walk into a world from Alice in Wonderland or enter a washroom with glitzy copper piping.
  5. Spring Grill House Restaurant — Hamilton, Ontario
The spotless and stylish washrooms at Spring Grill House feature sleek, grey wall and floor tiles. Beautiful lace leaf flowers adorn individual marble water basins that sit in between modern, backlit wall artwork. The washrooms also include modern toilets and urinals, which are separated by dark panels.
The five finalists were selected based on cleanliness, visual appeal, innovation, functionality and unique design elements. The winner will receive the royal restroom treatment from Cintas with $2,500 in facility services to help keep their restrooms Ready for the Workday®.
Last year’s winner, the Whitecourt Esso Super Station in Whitecourt, Alberta, took the throne for its decorative lighting and eye-catching wall tiles, paired with sleek countertops.
